A full year after showcasing their Resort 22 Collection at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, Aje Co-Founders Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris have done it again with the debut of their Resort 23 collection, entitled ‘Sculptura’.

Captured in preparations ahead of the runway on the 11th of May, the duo invite you behind the scenes of ‘Sculptura’ for an exclusive up-close look at the inspiration that led the collection, showcased through early design illustrations, garment details and intimate fittings with Aje Muses prior to show day.

With its origins rooted in the heart of Aje, Resort 23 ‘Sculptura’ is an ode to the eternal dance between human, landscape and art. An exploration of the inherent interplay between form and space, the collection draws from the philosophies of emerging sculptors, most notably the way they use the earth as both the canvas and core of their creations.

Their creative journey began with the bursting hues found in the vast landscape art installations of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, before following their fascinations towards the wave-like fields of Maya Lin and the painterly botanicals present in the collaborative works of Simone Bodmer-Turner and Emma Kohlmann, as well as Malene Knudsen’s sinuous, unglazed stoneware, among others.

The result is a collection born of an assemblage of artistic influences, manifesting in sculpturesque silhouettes and textural details presenting in vivid hues imbued with golden undertones. Hand-painted prints led with free-form brushstrokes and languidly unfurling florals, while vibrant fringing, embroidery, sequins and beading across hems, bodices and skirts further submerge the body in colour.

Accessories, similarly, followed the same sculpturesque philosophy, with woven clutches and beaded mini bags elevated with tubular metallic tassels and hand-cast chain straps, heightening the sense of space through exaggerated silhouettes and trims.

Celebrating the innate need to create with earth as a canvas, ‘Sculptura’ embodies a fusion of forms inspired by nature, reimagined through art.
