Behind The Seams |
The Making of The Expressive Story from Resort 23 'Sculptura'

Exploring the relationship between form and space, the Expressive story of Resort 23 is an embodiment of the highly anticipated collection’s sculptural ethos.

A symphony of ivory organza pieces first seen on Aje’s ‘Sculptura’ runway at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, enjoy a behind-the-seams look at how these long-awaited styles came to life, from sketches to silhouettes.

Taking form in decadent tiers of raw cut organza, spiralling on sleeves and cascading along skirts in a vision of volume, the Expressive storycomprising a maxi dress, mini dress and cropped bodicedraws its essence from signature Aje craftsmanship and design codes.

Drawing partial inspiration from the immense installations created by artistic duo Christo and Jeanne-Claude, most notably L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, the Expressive Pleated Maxi Dress reinterprets the revered artwork’s repetitive use of wrapping and draping through multiple ruching and pleating techniques developed in-house.

Entirely pleated and enhanced with soft gathers, the dress features raw-edged strips of pleated organza appliquéd onto a bubble-like bodice, heightening the sleeves with a fan-like spiral; an effect echoed in the Expressive Pleated Top.

As with its maxi dress and bodice counterparts, the Expressive Pleated Mini Dress showcases similar interpretations of these artisanal techniques.

Constructed with a ruched strapless bodice shaped with boning, pleated frills cascade along the skirt, with a sculpted, wavelike accent unfurling at the waist, rendering the wearer both canvas and art.
