Biophilia

Introducing Pre-Fall 22 ‘Biophilia’, a conversation between nature, architecture and fashion.

Inspired by great works of architectural splendour that exist in symbiosis with the natural world, Pre-Fall 22 draws on the dialogue between human-made structures and living matter; melding modern materials with organic aesthetics and examining both this harmony and dichotomy.

Inspired by a collective of architects referencing the study of ecology through structure, Creative Directors Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris found themselves drawn to the surreal works of the art nouveau era and its preeminent master, Gaudi, as well as the iconic modern spaces of Stefano Boeri and Frank Lloyd Wright. The cascading waterfalls of Lloyd Wright’s ‘Falling Water’ informed wave-like ruffles, angled hardware and clean pintuck details throughout the collection.

Constructed in abstract silhouettes and featuring a dynamic colour palette inspired by exotic flora and fauna; explore vivid blues of cleansing water, raw textures, verdant greens and vibrant spills of colour as seen in the stained glass windows of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia.

Akin to the meeting of structure and fluid form reflected in the work of these innovators, this season’s prints sit in juxtaposition; hand dyed, sun-dappled softness contrasts a graphic bespoke python print created through an entirely unique mixed media technique.

Exaggerated whipstitch details, statement sleeves, tonal seaming and signature raw edging feature throughout the collection; with organic-shaped cutouts and gold eyelets inspired by the irregular shapes of art nouveau forms.

Natural fabrications in the form of linens, cotton poplin and knits; as well as silk linen, PU leathers and updated denim are imbued with the tough femininity kindred with Aje design codes. Modern, elevated leather accessories and jewellery adorned with art nouveau motifs hold both strength and raw beauty.

Pre-Fall 22 ‘Biophilia’ is a reverie to nature, architecture and fashion formed in idyllic union; with the ultimate relationship being that of the wearer to her clothes and how they help her to move through the world.
